Gig, Tracy
Gunnar’s knock came when I was still fussing with my hair. Thank goodness we’d already done my makeup and my outfit was on and adjusted so that nothing was showing. Much. Designers sure did take liberties, but I felt like a million bucks. Everything was coordinated right down to my underwear, which of course no one was going to see, but I knew it was there. I had earrings, a necklace, even rings on my fingers that matched the outfit. Let alone shoes and hair accessories and a little purse.
Tiffany ran to get the door.
Gunnar’s rich voice came lilting into the suite. "Wow, Tiffany, that looks gorgeous on you."
My heart melted at how polite and nice he was, saying the outfit looked nice on her, rather than she looked good in it. Someone had taught him manners.
Tiffany told him, "Wait till you see Tracy. It's a good thing you saw me first, because ‘wow’ doesn't even cover the outfit she has on."
"Yeah," Gunnar told her, "and she was ready to set it aside because we weren’t going clubbing."
"Aw," Tiffany groaned, "you've already seen it. I forgot."
"But I haven't seen it on her," he assured her. "I bet she lends a whole new dimension to it."
I took this as my cue, sauntering in as if I were the rockstar.
Gunnar whistled. "Tracy! Maybe instead of in the audience, you should be up on stage with us tonight!"
Enjoying the attention, I slowly turned around for him, the way all the wardrobe ladies had wanted me to before each talk show. "I know you're just kidding, so I'm not gonna get heart palpitations."
Gunnar rocked back on the heels of his snazzy rockstar shoes, bending the pants of his snazzy rockstar outfit. "Who says I'm kidding? Honestly, you look so good you could steal the show from us on stage without even dancing, but that would be an added bonus, if you did." He looked over at Tiffany. "You're both welcome to be on stage dancing, if you want. I think that would lend an extra something to the show."
Tiffany got all excited. “You mean it?”
I touched her arm with warning. "Gunnar, you can't just tell us that yourself. You need to get the rest of your bandmates in on it. What if they don't want us up there dancing? I wouldn't feel right."
Gunnar snapped out of the goofy trance my outfit had put him in and stood up straight again, gesturing to the front door. "Speaking of my bandmates, we’d better get going. Do you have everything?"
I looked down at my outfit and held my hands up, gesturing at my tiny little purse. "I have my phone, ID, room key, and lipstick. That's all I can fit in here."
Tiffany indicated her own little purse and said, "Same."
Gunnar opened the suite door for us. "That's all you need," he said with a smile.
I looked around for the other guys, but the hallway was empty. "Aren’t the rest of the band staying up here too?"
Gunnar pushed the button for the elevator.
